Data-only SIM
A data-only SIM gives a device internet access over the mobile network without a phone number or call allowance. It's how tablets, laptops with SIM slots, portable Wi-Fi hotspots and mobile broadband routers get online.

Common uses
Data-only SIMs are popular as a backup connection, for travel and holiday lets, and for anywhere a fixed line isn't practical.
- iPads and Android tablets with a SIM slot
- Laptops with built-in mobile broadband
- Portable 4G/5G Wi-Fi hotspots (MiFi)
- Home or van routers for occasional use
- Backup internet if your fixed broadband goes down
Choosing a data allowance
Light browsing and email on a tablet: 1–5GB. Regular streaming or work on a laptop: 25–50GB. Using it as a main internet connection: unlimited, where offered and within fair usage. Plans are on the O2 or Vodafone network.
30-day plans roll monthly and may carry a cease charge depending on the service. 24-month plans have a minimum term and may have an early termination charge. All plans are subject to network availability, fair usage and annual price adjustments, shown before you order.
Mobile broadband vs home broadband
If you need a permanent connection for a whole household, fixed broadband is usually faster, more consistent and better value. A data SIM is best for portability, backup or as a stop-gap while you wait for a line. OCCTA offers both.
