    Broadband Keeps Dropping Out

Intermittent problems are the hardest to pin down, so it's worth working out whether it's the line or the Wi-Fi that's dropping.

    Line drop or Wi-Fi drop?

Watch the router's internet light when it happens. If the internet light goes off or flashes, the line is dropping. If it stays solid while devices lose connection, it's Wi-Fi.

    Common causes

    The usual suspects:

    • Extension leads, phone extension wiring or faulty microfilters on part fibre.
    • Router overheating in a cupboard.
    • Electrical interference from lamps, chargers or appliances near cables.
    • Wi-Fi congestion or devices roaming between mesh points.

    Keep a short log

Note the date, time and how long each drop lasts for a few days. Combined with our line tests, it helps us prove the fault to the network quickly.
