What is Digital Voice?
In short
Digital Voice is OCCTA's replacement for the traditional landline. Same phone, delivered over broadband.
The UK is switching off the old copper telephone network. Digital Voice is how your home phone works from now on — it runs over your OCCTA broadband instead of a separate phone line.
What that means for you
- Same handset (in most cases).
- Same phone number if you want to keep it.
- Calls are usually crisper.
- The phone plugs into the OCCTA router, not a wall socket.
Requirements
- Active OCCTA broadband.
- Mains power (unlike copper landlines, Digital Voice does not work in a power cut unless you have battery backup).
- A standard phone handset with an RJ11 cable.
How to set up
- Plug your phone into the green "PHONE" port on the OCCTA router.
- Pick up the handset — you should hear a dial tone within 30 seconds.
Important safety information
If you rely on a home phone for emergencies — including personal alarms, medical devices, or care lines — read 'Alarm systems and medical devices' before switching. We provide battery backup or alternative arrangements for vulnerable customers at no extra cost.
