What to do before your engineer appointment

    In short

A short checklist that makes engineer visits go smoothly and prevents rescheduling.

A little preparation prevents most engineer callouts from going wrong. Run through this the day before.

    Checklist

    • Confirm the appointment slot in your OCCTA dashboard.
    • Make sure someone 18+ is home for the whole slot (they can be up to 4 hours).
    • Clear a path to where the router will live — engineers may need to drill a small cable entry.
    • Decide where you want the fibre socket (ONT). Where the router sits matters for Wi-Fi. See 'Where to place your router'.
    • If you rent, get written permission from your landlord for the install if drilling is required.
    • Keep pets out of the working area for their safety.
    • Charge your phone — engineers sometimes need to test with you.

    What the engineer will do

    • Confirm your address and the work order.
    • Route a fibre from the street to inside your home (for FTTP).
    • Install a small white ONT box, usually near a power socket.
    • Plug the OCCTA router in and confirm the line is up.
    • Ask you to sign that the job is complete.

    After they leave

Test your Wi-Fi from a few rooms. If speeds are lower than expected, wait 24 hours — the line stabilises. If it's still wrong, contact us.
