Leaving BT Broadband
BT's prices have crept up every year while their contracts have got longer. If you're out of your minimum term (or willing to pay the exit fee), leaving is straightforward. Here's the process.
The short answer
Where One Touch Switch applies, you normally contact the gaining provider rather than separately cancelling the service being switched. Your existing provider supplies the required switching information, including any applicable leaving charges.
Check if you're still in contract
Check your current provider's account or latest bill for the minimum term and any applicable Early Termination Charge. Do not rely on a generic per-month estimate.
Compare the actual service at your address
The underlying access network depends on the address and selected product. Compare the address-specific speed information, term, setup and total price shown before acceptance.
Sign up — that's it
The new provider triggers One Touch Switch, tells BT to stop the service on the switch date, and you never speak to BT retention.
Return the BT hub
BT will send you a return bag. Post the hub back or you'll be charged around £50.
