Change Your Wi-Fi Name and Password
Changing the default Wi-Fi password is one of the simplest ways to keep your home network secure.
Log in to the router
Connect to your router (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) and open a browser. The admin address and admin password are usually on the router label — commonly 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.
Change the name and password
Find the Wireless or Wi-Fi settings. Change the network name (SSID) and password, then save. Your devices will disconnect — reconnect them using the new details.
- Use WPA2 or WPA3 security, never 'open' or WEP.
- Choose a long password — three random words works well.
- Don't use your name, address or house number in the network name.
Change the admin password too
The router's admin password is different from the Wi-Fi password. Change it so nobody else on the network can alter your settings.
