Router lights explained
In short
What each router light means, and what to do when one is red, blinking, or off.
Router lights are the fastest way to work out what's wrong.
Power light
- Solid: router has power. Good.
- Off: check the power adapter is switched on at the wall.
- Blinking: firmware update in progress — leave alone for 5 minutes.
Internet / WAN / DSL light
- Solid green or white: internet is connected.
- Blinking: the router is negotiating a connection. Give it 2–5 minutes.
- Red: no signal from the network. If it stays red for 15+ minutes, restart the router.
- Off: check the Ethernet cable to the ONT (fibre) or the master phone socket (copper).
Wi-Fi light
- Solid: Wi-Fi is broadcasting.
- Off: press the Wi-Fi button on the router (many have one).
LAN light
- Blinks when a wired device is talking to the router.
If it stays red for longer than an hour
Try one full restart: unplug for 30 seconds, plug back in, wait 5 minutes. Still red? Contact us — do NOT factory-reset the router before checking with us, as you may lose provisioning settings.
