Router setup step-by-step guide
In short
A step-by-step OCCTA router setup guide — cables, lights, Wi-Fi login and first-time speed check.
Before you start
- Your service must be live (check the activation email).
- You'll need the router, the power supply, and the DSL/fibre lead.
Step 1: Position the router
Central, elevated, off the floor, away from metal and other electronics.
Step 2: Connect
- FTTP: Ethernet from the ONT (white box on the wall) into the router's WAN port.
- FTTC: DSL cable from the master socket into the router's DSL port.
Step 3: Power on
Wait 3–5 minutes for the router to boot and sync. Lights should settle to steady (see Router lights explained).
Step 4: Join the Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi name and password are printed on the back of the router. Change them in the router admin if you like.
Step 5: Test
Open a browser, load any site. Then plug a laptop in with Ethernet and run a speed test.
Step 6: Give it 10 days
Speeds tune upward over the first week. Don't panic if day-one isn't perfect.
